About Us
Yard Sail was inspired by our love for yard sales – you'll never know what you'll find - and our harbor front shop in Rockport. We love to create happy products for giving and keeping, inspired by love and life. Every object is designed with a cheerful vibe and many combine both words and pictures, made for free spirits like us. Oh bouy!
Our Passion
As a multi-crafter who experiments with different mediums, Cindy of Yard Sail has a passion for miniatures, set against backdrops that depict life, whether it's a beach, cityscape or even outer space. She thinks of them as witty dioramas and likes to make smaller images with the philosophy that we are all running out of space in our lives; Little Murals are compact and fit anywhere. Cindy incorporates tiny people who are often quizzically staring into the artwork, and thus become part of the landscape. Humor is also a major element of her work, and she loves to put a smile on viewer's faces, whether it's a quirky saying or bizarre juxtaposition.
Cindy works in her Rockport and Lexington studio, engrossed in the joy of recreating the world around her in a tiny form.
In the words of Sei Shonagon, written almost a thousand years ago,
No matter what they are,
All things small are adorable."
Our Process
Little Murals are created with a hybrid process that includes original photography, glue, markers, paint, beads, and other multi-media. The mini tableaus have a glossy coating that is part of their appeal. The miniatures are carefully chosen to create a three-dimensional component to the imagery, the sense that one can step into the picture if given the chance. The end result is “kawaii" or “cuteness” and a familiarity with the small scale of being.
